This amazing species was only discovered in 1997 and this particular form was collected by Dan Hinkley and subsequently named 'Sichuan Spider' by Tony Avants to "distinguish it from imposters". Indeed, this species has been elusive for us in the last 15 years as we kept on receiving wrong plants. It was worth the wait and persistence, as the true E. chlorandrum impresses with mottled/bronze leaves in spring, turning a deep mid-green in summer. The numerous, large spidery flowers, also emerging in spring, are light yellow with white sepals (the none-spidery part on top of the flower), arranged on arching stems protruding out of the clump.
