Deer resistant:
This depends heavily on the food supply for deer in general.
If they are desperate, they’ll eat almost anything.
Rabbit resistant:
Similar deer, rabbits will eat plants that they usually are not
supposed to.For example if they are hungry or just feel
adventurous. Also, info about rabbit resistant plants is scarce.
Low water:
Also known as drought tolerant. Included in this listing are plants that
don’t need regular watering after they have been – and that’s important
- established. Instead of every 2-4 days in hot days (upper 90s – low 100s)
water with a deep soak once a week; most will go beyond that. If temps
are in the 80s and lower 90s, watering every other week will be sufficient.
We never recommend daily watering.
Bog plant:
These plants can go in bogs, wet soils and/or in water of different depths.
Please see instruction for the specific plant.
Humming bird:
Only hummingbirds’ favorite plants are assigned to this group.
We didn’t include plants they would visit rarely.
Edelweiss:
We assign certain plants our Edelweiss award for outstanding
features and/or performance. Basic requirements for this award
are to be cold hardy at least to zone 6 and lower, long-lived
and tough. If you want to browse our best plants, click on the
