Notes About :Kniphofia

KNIPHOFIA RED HOT POKER, TORCH LILY. Despite their common name, most red hot pokers are not red. They are still becoming more and more popular, however, because of their drought tolerance and the vertical element they bring into the garden design. They are not picky with soil as long as it drains.

Foliage is rather short and grass-like. Easy to grow in most well drained soils, clumping up to nice sized plants. 3 plants left.

SALE! Reg. 9.75. Kindly shared with us by Mike Snyder of Portland, OR. He didn't have the name to go with it but thought we should have some. Out of a tidy clump of lush-green leaves appear spikes with green buds, opening to a soft apricot color. Excellent in combination with a purple leaved shrub or tree in the background.

SALE! Reg. 8.75. For all those of you that can't grow Aloe in the garden, we have this unusual "poker" for you. The soft coral-orange tubular flowers are widely spaced so they look like anything but a Kniphofia. At the nursery, they bloom from mid summer onwards into fall; a late flower stem (mid November) even survived frost in the mid 20s unscathed. For well drained soil. Spreading.
