Notes About :Cyclamen

CYCLAMEN Extremely rewarding and showy group of tuberous plants with nodding flowers and reflexed petals. While the shiny, often patterned leaves emerge in fall, the flowers appear as early as January for C.coum and August for C.hederifolium. The leaves will stay into June and then disappear for a summer "nap". Both species like a humus-rich, well drained soil in light to full shade and are one of the few plants that grow under fir trees. Avoid excessive summer moisture. Most of our Cyclamen are grow in 2 3/8" square - 3 3/4" deep pots, unless indicated otherwise. SHIPPING: If you order just 6 Cyclamen by themselves, shipping will be no more than $14.50 anywhere in the US. When dormant (June-August) we can actually fit up 25 Cyclamen into a large flat rate box which ships for $18.50. (The shopping cart is not able to generate this, but we will adjust the shipping cost manually)

A pretty fall blooming species from Turkey with honey-scented, mostly pale pink flowers and a magenta "nose". The petals are strongly reflexed and narrow. Leaves are more or less silvery marked. According to the Cyclamen Society, C. cilicium can be hardy to USDA zone 4, but in my experience it has been more on the tender side. Considering they grow in rocky/gravelly soil, good drainage will make all the difference and they do prefer a dryer spot in general. 2 3/8" square -3 3/4" deep pots.

A subspecies found from the eastern Black Sea coast to Northern Iran, differing from the species in that the leaves are often slightly toothed or scalloped. The flowers are less rounded and longer. They like a bit more light then the regular C. coum but still prefer shade in hotter climates.

If I would have to name the 10 best perennials, I could never decide on the 10 but I know this plant would be one of them. It's the hardiest of all the Cyclamen, has an extended blooming time and best of all, every single one is strongly fragrant. Bloom color varies between dark pink to deep magenta, leave pattern from slightly marked to almost all silver. Further more they hold on to the foliage through most of the summer, when others are completely dormant. Prefers well drained soil like all Cyclamen. The few we had this spring were snatched up fast but we'll hopefully have a good number late summer-fall 2013. Please check back July or so.

A rarely offered species with silvery-white mottled and splashed, dark green leaves. The narrow-petaled flowers have a prominent dark nose. Like cilicicum and mirabile, needs a well drained soil and is possibly hardier than just to zone 7. 2 3/8" square -3 3/4" deep pots.
